Finding your Path with a Life Coach

How a life coach can help you reach your goals

Are you feeling lost or stuck on the path to achieving your goals? Just like walking in a forest, sometimes we need a torch to guide us on our journey. Discover how a life coach can be that light, helping you ignite your purpose and navigate obstacles as you climb toward your goals.

Introduction: Walking in a Forest

Imagine you are walking in a forest. All around you are mountains, lakes, and a seemingly endless amount of trees and paths to take. You may feel overwhelmed and think to yourself, “What Mountain do I want to climb?”, “What path do I take?”, or “Why am I doing this?”

Now imagine that you find a torch- a light to guide you on your path. Something to give you a bit of clarity as you make your way through the forest. The light will help you move confidently through the underbrush of the path in front of you toward the mountain of your choosing until you reach the peak!

In this story, the mountains are your goals, the path is the route you choose to get there, and the fire is your purpose (or mission).

Fun metaphors aside, working towards a goal is hard! Motivation can be fleeting, resources may be limited, and time’s a-wastin! Sometimes it can be overwhelming to the point of stagnation. When this happens, it may be time to bring someone else on the trip with you- and this is where a life coach comes in.

Below are (4) ways a coach can help you discover who you are and what drives you forward!

Exploration and Discovery: Finding your Fire.

Finding your purpose is like igniting a flame that fuels your journey. This is the light that helps you navigate the twists and turns on your path toward your goals. A coach can help you find the fuel that you will need to light the fire for this adventure!

A coach’s main job is to be curious. This curiosity is focused through the lens of helping YOU discover what you want and why you want it. They will ask you thought-provoking questions to help you gain clarity and uncover what really matters to you.

Through questions and reflection, a coach can help you uncover your strengths, values, and talent. This will allow you to discover who you are authentically and will guide you as you move toward your goals. This will give way to you finding your purpose, so that you can carry that fire with you at all times.

During this stage of discovery, they will help you determine what “hills” to get used to the climb on.. This will be led by you (it is YOUR journey, afterall!). This time of self-discovery is important. Because, while  it is one thing to know what you do like, but it is even more valuable to know what you DON’T like.

So start exploring, adventurer!

Goal Setting: Developing a Road Map

Once you have determined what mountain you’d like to climb and goal you are setting out to achieve, it’s time for a game plan.

A coach will work with you to figure out what the next steps are for your journey. By taking into account what you want to do, your strengths and what is important to you, you will be able to develop a clear vision moving forward.

This will help you start to develop a roadmap that will keep you on track.

Once you have a map you need to take action… but what happens when you don’t hit the landmarks on the way up the mountain? How will you stay accountable to the goals you’ve set for yourself?

Accountability: Staying on Track

Sometimes, even with a clear goal and map in place, it can be easy to get lost in the forest of life and lose sight of the reason you’re on this journey in the first place. That’s where accountability comes in.

The benefit of having a coach on your side when you don’t feel motivated is indescribable. They can hold you accountable for taking the actions you stated were important to move you forward. They can push you to stay true to your word when the going gets tough.

Accountability means having someone to answer to when you fall behind. Someone to help you course-correct when you’re going off track. And, of course, someone to celebrate with you when you reach that final peak!

Be sure to remember that accountability is NOT about punishment or shame; instead, it is about staying committed to your journey.

The map is not the territory. A coach will help you figure out your next steps, but also figure out what to do when push comes to shove.

Overcoming Obstacles: Navigating Challenges

When you are on the path to your goals, roadblocks are a guarantee. These blocks can invade your path like thistle taking over a field. When we face these challenges, it can be difficult to determine the best path forwar.

This is where your life coach comes in. They can help you break the challenges into manageable chunks so that you can move forward. Just as they help you develop your initial plan, they will help you come up with the best way to continue on your journey.

Conclusion

The journey toward achieving our goals can be daunting and overwhelming. However, just like walking through a forest with a torch and map to guide us, having a life coach can provide clarity and guidance as we move toward the peak.
