Business consulting, life coaching, and a little horse sense.
I’m Ranger Kielak, a small business consultant and coach in Half Moon Bay. I help business owners figure out what’s actually holding the business back, help individuals get unstuck, and use horses to help people and teams see how they lead. Pick the path that fits where you are right now.

Three ways I can help.
Most of my work falls into three areas. Start with the one that fits what you’re dealing with right now.

Business Consulting
Practical consulting for established small business owners who need clarity around pricing, profitability, marketing, operations, growth, or what to fix next. Start with the Trailhead Plan, my two-week small business diagnostic, or explore other private consulting options.

You know something in the business isn’t working. The harder part is figuring out whether it’s your pricing, margins, marketing, sales, operations, expenses, capacity, or something you haven’t thought to look at yet.
The Trailhead Plan uses your actual business information to identify what deserves your attention, quantify the financial impact where we responsibly can, and build a prioritized plan for the next 90 days.
- Deep-dive business diagnostic
- Written findings report
- Business gap map
- Prioritized 90-day action plan
- Key metric to track
- 30-day follow-up
For established businesses with customers, revenue, expenses, and enough operating history to analyze what’s actually happening.
Growth works a lot like the land does.
My work is rooted in agriculture because that’s where I learned to think about growth. You tend what’s working. You deal with what isn’t. You respect the season you’re in. You don’t expect everything to change overnight, but you keep doing the work that gives growth a chance.
I bring that same approach to businesses, people, and teams.

Hi, I’m Coach Ranger.
Rooted in agriculture. Focused on growth.
I’m a UC Davis graduate with a background in agriculture, economics, and education. Before starting Within Range, I worked as a county pesticide inspector. Today, I advise small business owners, coach people through work and life transitions, and build programs at the intersection of business, agriculture, leadership, and personal growth.
In 2024, I walked 2,642 miles across America from South Carolina to California, raising more than $8,500 for charity and picking up a cat named Walker in Oklahoma along the way. That experience reinforced something agriculture had already taught me: meaningful growth usually happens one step at a time.
Real words from people I’ve worked with.
Ranger helped me break big ideas into clear, achievable steps. I walked away with a clearer vision for my photography business and the confidence to make it happen.
He brings a depth of agriculture experience to his coaching, with infectious energy and enthusiasm, ready to help clients overcome obstacles and reach their goals.
I attended Ranger’s podcast seminar and found it incredibly insightful. His approachable style made the process feel accessible and inspired me to create my own podcast.
Super down-to-earth and easy to talk to, and he really knows how to help you get focused. I always walk away feeling more confident and clear about what I’m working toward.
His consulting is on target. It’s not man versus nature, it’s a collaboration between man and nature. He, and his work, are a life changer.
Working with Ranger has been truly beneficial in getting clear on both the short and long term goals of my established small business.
I found Ranger through the HMB Renaissance Center and have experienced high-level coaching that’s truly helping me move my business forward in clear, actionable steps.
A game changer for my company’s pesticide compliance. He broke everything down clearly, found gaps I didn’t know I had, and gave me real peace of mind.
An engaging, informative session packed with valuable insights and practical tips. His energy and expertise made it both enjoyable and worthwhile.
His approach doesn’t just focus on business growth but also personal alignment and purpose. He genuinely understands the challenges entrepreneurs face.
His sessions are very structured, and he’s great at asking questions to figure out exactly what you’re struggling with. He’ll hold you accountable, but nicely.
An incredible coach who genuinely cares about your growth. His holistic approach to success is both inspiring and empowering.
Ranger helped me get through mental hurdles and build consistency. Great analogies, and he helped me use my own rationale to motivate myself.
We worked together for 12 weeks as he helped me navigate a number of life transitions. He’s skilled at listening and reflecting things I didn’t know I was saying.
He spans the personal and professional so seamlessly it’s like getting two coaches for the price of one. I made a significant career move that was long overdue.
Punctual, professional, and focused, while being laid back, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. Would highly recommend him as a coach.
My first time in coaching, and I was surprised by the deep insights I gained into myself and the progress I made toward my goals.
A great listener and communicator. He helped me set goals and stay on track to achieve them. I’m so proud to call Ranger my coach.
Calm, listened well, and took notes that helped with focus. Ranger helped me visualize my thought processes.
A coach who truly understands what it takes to believe in yourself. The motivation he provides makes an impact beyond measure.
He asked such great, challenging questions every time we met, helping me realize my true power and confidence. And the best part? I did the work.
Through humor, expertise, and vulnerability, he guided us through living a purposeful life and made a heavy concept easy to understand.
Ranger helped me find clarity, give a name to the things standing between me and my happiness, and ultimately overcome them.
His coaching acted as a mirror. I had a safe place to express myself and really see and hear myself from a new perspective.
He doesn’t just listen, he hears. He hears stuff you don’t even know you’re saying, then gives gentle suggestions that help you make sense of it all.
Ranger helped me lay out my goals for the year, how I’d achieve them, and most importantly, why. I’m in a better spot than I was a year ago.
I wasn’t sure I needed a life coach. But I changed how and why I do things, and made positive changes to live a happier, less stressful life.
His presence and demeanor create the safe space needed to truly partner with another. He will help shape the future of this field.
Ranger’s coaching drastically improved the quality of communication in my relationship. Things are even better than I could have imagined.
A fantastic A-to-Z of everything you need to launch your own podcast. Nothing more, nothing less.
Very knowledgeable in his area. I highly recommend him for coaching. He serves the San Mateo area.
I attended Within Range’s budgeting workshop and found it very informative. I look forward to attending future workshops.
I attended Ranger and Joan’s equine inner-critic workshop and loved the horses as teachers. The exercises showed me where I’m still hesitant in my own life.
An impactful experience that encouraged us to challenge our inner critic. So many aha moments. I would 100% recommend working with Ranger.
You don’t get this kind of thing from corporate workshops or ropes courses. There’s something really special and powerful about horses. I don’t think anyone has a good excuse to miss it.
I learned that leadership isn’t just about me. It’s about the people you’re leading and what you want for them. If you’re thinking about it, just do it.
We learned to recognize, reflect, and reframe the inner critic. I came to realize everyone has one, and in this workshop we didn’t face it alone.
Stories from the land, on stage and on air.
Talks, workshops, and conversations on growth, leadership, resilience, agriculture, and finding your way back to what matters.
