In the journey of personal growth and self-fulfillment, measuring success goes beyond the traditional yardstick of grand gestures and major achievements. At Within Range Life Coaching, we encourage individuals to embrace a different approach to success. An approach that recognizes and celebrates wins in every possible way.
Transcending the limits of conventional achievement, one can find success in the smallest of victories and ordinary moments.
In this article, we will explore the concept of measuring success in diverse ways. By using the analogy of rock climbing as an example, we reveal how stacking wins can help you build confidence.
Expand Your Perspective on Success:
Success is not a one-size-fits-all concept; it varies from person to person. Rather than confining success to monumental achievements, it is crucial to broaden our perspective and embrace the beauty of small wins. In the context of rock climbing, not every triumph is about reaching the summit of a towering peak, it could be conquering a challenging section of the climbing wall, mastering a new technique, or simply having the courage to take the first step. Every victory, no matter how small, contributes to your overall progress and should be acknowledged as a success.
Stacking Wins: Creating a Burden of Proof:
To live a life worth remembering, it is vital to stack as many wins as possible, creating a powerful burden of proof that showcases the person you aspire to be. Each win, no matter how small, serves as evidence of your growth, resilience, and commitment to personal development. Stacking wins is about accumulating a collection of achievements that demonstrate your capabilities and reinforce your self-belief. Every win, whether in relationships, career, health, or personal pursuits, contributes to the narrative of your life—a life that resonates with purpose and accomplishment.
Example: The Power of Micro Wins in Rock Climbing:
In rock climbing, micro wins are the building blocks of progress. In the summer of 2019, I embarked on a new journey for myself and signed on at the Rocknasium in Davis, CA. I had never climbed before, and this was near my peak weight (295). When I say that micro-wins are what kept me going, I mean it!
I measured wins in any way I could. From maintaining balance on a route, doing multiple pullups, or just learning the difference between the different grips! All of these “micro-wins” throughout my time in the gym weren’t much on their own. However, they added up to a large stack of proof that I was able to showcase my skill as a climber (no matter how little!). They’re what kept me going back even on days I didn’t want to, and got me back on the wall even when I was discouraged.
Success in rock climbing is not solely measured by conquering the highest peak but by acknowledging the victories that pave the way towards it.
This is about climbing, and this is NOT about climbing.
Success is not limited to grand gestures alone. It resides in the everyday victories-the small wins that accumulate over time. By expanding your perspective on success, and celebrating wins, you create a stack of success that showcases your journey.
