“In the measurement world, you set a goal and strive for it. In the universe of possibility, you set the context and let life unfold.”- The Art of Possibility, Rosamund Zander
Because our world is bustling with distractions and the endless pursuit of productivity, it’s easy to find ourselves lost in our routines. This could lead us to feel stuck, running in circles, or worse, victims of circumstance. But it doesn’t have to be this way. It’s possible to stop, evaluate, and say “this isn’t what I want, but THIS is.”
The art of living with intention invites us to step off the rat race and savor life’s moments. Imagine yourself on a journey through the majestic peaks of existence, where each step is filled with purpose, and each breath is a reminder that you are a part of something greater.
Welcome to “The Peaks Program,” a 30-day expedition into intentional living that will leave you refreshed, recharged, and reignited. Just as a skilled mountaineer carefully selects their gear and plots their route before scaling a peak, this program empowers you to declare your daily experiences, ascend weekly challenges, and conquer a towering goal you’ve set for the month.
Daily Tasks: One step at a time
Much like a gardener tending to their plants, our daily choices cultivate the landscape of our lives.
In “The Peaks Program,” you’ll choose five tasks every day, each representing a seed planted with intention. These tasks could be activities that move you forward in your debt payment or savings journey, or could help you build a stronger relationship with your spouse. They could even help get you off the couch and move!
From practicing mindfulness to conquering a new skill, each task is a step forward on your ascent toward a more purposeful life.
As they say, “how do you climb a mountain? One step at a time.”
Weekly Task: Stacking Bigger Wins
Your weekly task is a chance to challenge yourself and build resilience.
With your daily tasks pushing you to make consistent progress, think of the weekly task as a landmark to look back on. This should be a task that is out of the ordinary and move you towards the life you want.
As a note, don’t think this HAS to be productivity based. Decide what is most important to you. Do you want this task to be productive? Great, make it productive. Relaxing? Great, make it relaxing. Something else? Define what you want it to be, and make it happen.
Whether it’s posting that article you’ve been avoiding (like this one!) or making time with friends, these challenges are meant to make you go “I did that and I feel great!” Embrace these opportunities to gather momentum and go higher, and remind yourself that sometimes the best way to move forward is to take a break!
Monthly Goal: Reaching the Summit
As you journey through the program, your monthly goal might feel like it’s lingering over you like a mountain peak… But that is not the intention.
This peak represents the culmination of your effort. It’s real tangible proof of commitment to living intentionally. Much like reaching a mountain’s peak, this accomplishment is not just a personal victory; it’s a testament to the heights you can reach when you set your mind to it.
This goal is a bit of a stretch. Structure it in the form of a SMART Goal so that you can really see where it is that you are going. As a pro tip, have it be something that is connected to some of your other goals, but not as a direct result of them.
- For example, one of my daily tasks is to post on social media every day, and my monthly goal is to enroll a new client during this time. While the goals are connected, enrolling a client may not be a direct result of posting… but it sure can help!
What happens when things go wrong?
Now you might be thinking, this all sounds great, but what happens if I don’t do one of the daily tasks? What if I don’t reach my monthly goal? How will I hit my goal of “Intentional living” when I am unable to do that?
While we can not guarantee results, we will provide a few questions that can help you reflect on when trouble arises:
- What got in your way? What will you do differently?
- How committed are you to the outcomes you’ve chosen?
- You didn’t reach your goal… What did you learn about yourself?
When things don’t go “right”, reflect, learn, and figure out what to do instead. Try not to look at things as “right” or “wrong”, but instead look through the lens of “is this working? Or not?”
