What is a “Life Worth Remembering?”

Why our coaching program is geared towards helping you live with intention.

For much of my life, I embraced a mantra. “We all die twice. The first when we stop breathing, and the second when someone says our name for the last time.”

To write this article, I tried figuring out where I heard it first. Between a quick Google search and asking around I got answers ranging from Al Pacino to the Ancient Egyptians, and from Banksy to Macklemore… so I decided where I heard it first didn’t matter as much as the impact it had on me.

This simple notion guided my decisions, nudging me to make choices that would etch my name into the history books. I was focused more on other people’s perceptions of, and ability to remember, me, and focused more on my post-mortem than my “now-life.” It was exhausting.

I believed that leaving a legacy meant being remembered long after my last breath had been taken. But, as it often happens, life has a way of humbling us and shifting our perspectives.

When the shift occurred

This profound shift occurred when a family member fell victim to Alzheimer’s. I didn’t live in the same state as them, so I did not really see the journey they’d gone through. It wasn’t until their passing in 2019 that I learned what was going on.

It was heart-wrenching hearing the story of them losing their memory and ability to recall the countless stories, experiences, and people (not to mention themself) that had made their life so great. This was a stark realization that we could live our entire lives, striving for recognition, accomplishments, and monuments with our name… and yet, one day, not even remember our own existence.

Once I started working with a coach myself I realized how this event had shifted my perception. Instead of being focused on the time between Death 1 and Death 2 (AKA 1 – 2), I focused on the time between Birth and Death 1 (AKA 0 – 1, more specifically “The Dash”). It wasn’t until I took my focus from “1 – 2” and shifted it to “0 – 1” that change happened.

Personally first, then as a Coach, my understanding of a “life worth remembering” evolved. I came to understand that it’s not all about other people remembering us, but about us remembering ourselves. This shift helped me live with intention. Live for myself and my desires, as opposed to a story I told myself about others.

It’s about asking ourselves the fundamental question: “What do I want?”

That is exactly what I want to do with Within Range Coaching and out coaching program.

Coaching, to me, is not merely a service, it’s a partnership with individuals seeking answers to this question. It’s about empowering people to live intentionally. To craft their stories, and to create a life that resonates with what they want.

At Within Range Coaching, our mission is clear: to empower our clients to achieve their goals so they can build a life worth remembering.

A life worth remembering is one where every day is filled with purpose, authenticity, and fulfillment. It’s about the pursuit of personal aspirations and the cultivation of meaningful relationships. It’s a life lived in alignment with your true self, where you don’t just exist, but you thrive. And it’s a life where you don’t only live for yourself, but in partnership and cooperation with others. Working towards goals that better everyone’s livelihood. Which, ironically, may actually achieve that original goal.

I challenge you to embark on this journey of intentional living. Embrace each day as an opportunity to define what you want, to make declarations, and to generate the results you desire. In doing so, you can build a life worth remembering and inspire others to do the same. This will create a ripple effect of positive change that resonates far beyond your years.

I will leave you with this, a paraphrased quote from Mario Quintana: Instead of chasing butterflies, focus on planting the garden.

That, truly, is a life worth remembering.
